Charles Gluskoter
thrown and hand-built stoneware pottery
The ceramic vessels I build have their roots in functional forms, but have evolved to be far more textural and sculptural. I create most of the works by combining slab building and throwing techniques in each piece. The slabs are pounded with various tools to achieve their texture. Many of the vessels are carved with intricate designs. The glazes I use are rough, dry, and metallic in character. My carved, burnished, pit-fired, pieces that are the very opposite of the stoneware vessels. These pots are unglazed, and have a soft, smooth feel. This is the diversity in clay potential I find so intriguing.
